SEAL OIL OMEGA3
Seal Oil is an excellent source of long-chain OMEGA-3 fatty acids that are more easily absorbed into the body than any other form of Omega-3 such as fish oil.

OMEGA-3: A NECESSITY, NOT AN OPTION
A study on the Greenlandic Eskimos as far back as 1975 revealed an almost non-existence of cardiovascular diseases. This was attributed to their diet of high seal meat
consumption which researches linked to the high OMEGA-3 fatty acids found in seal fat.A Mystery Revealed The Eskimo people exhibit low incidences of heart disease and cancer despite their high-fat diet OMEGA-3 fatty acids are essential and central to the human
body in protecting and developing the eyes, brain and nervous system. Our body is incapable of producing its own essential fatty acids and therefore it becomes necessary to
obtain it externally through food intake in quantities larger than which can be consumed on a daily basis. The fact that our daily diet consists of highly processed food with little or
no nutrients makes it even harder to obtain OMEGA-3 sufficiently. Hence, it becomes a Necessity and Not an Option to supplement our OMEGA-3 needs.Complete OMEGA-3 contains three essential components: Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and Docosapentaenoic acid (DPA). Each are found from
different sources and function differently in our bodies. While Fish Oil contains EPA & DHA and very low levels of DPA, Plant Oils contain only ALA.Seal Oil is the only marine derived oil that yields EPA, DHA and DPA, making it the most synergistically complete. This unique feature of Seal Oil with its high DPA content
primarily differentiates it from other kinds of OMEGA-3 oils. DPA is an intermediary between EPA and DHA and research has shown its many benefits, notably the reduced risk of
cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases, cancer as well as its vital importance in a child’s growth and development.
The Seal Oil Industry
Seal harvest is strictly regulated by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), the federal department which stipulates the TAC (Total Allowable Catches) per year. Harp Seals being the most abundant are harvested for their pelts, meat and oil. The federal department determines how many Harp Seals are harvested each year in economically viable & environmentally sustainable fashion, ensuring that Harp Seals are never an endangered species.
As at 2010 harp seal population survey stood at approximately 9 million animals, nearly four times what it was in the 1970s.
While there is a need to generate economic activities through seal harvesting, the DFO has set up stringent regulations and enforcement in order to conserve and maintain sustainable use of their fisheries resources.
Some of the key areas are proper hunting techniques (humane killing practices) and the prohibition to hunt white coats (new-born harp seals) and bluebacks (young hooded seals). Effective quota monitoring and system are in place and only 330,000 harp seals can be hunted per year. (The Canadian Seal Harvest-A Timeline, Fisheries & Oceans Canada)
FAQs
Where do OMEGA-3 & OMEGA-6 come from?
OMEGA-3: Primarily from two major categories, plant-derived sources like flaxseed oil, soybean oil, & canola oil and marine derived sources from fish oil and seal oil.
OMEGA-6: Primarily from common vegetable oils, plants, seeds, fruits and certain animal fats.
Why is there an imbalance of OMEGA-3 & OMEGA-6?
Modern diet delivers too much OMEGA-6 which is mainly found in commonly used items like cooking oil. This fact coupled by the little knowledge on the need for OMEGA-3 has resulted in an acute ratio imbalance of somewhere between 1:20 (OMEGA-3: OMEGA-6) and in some cases as high an imbalance of 1:60!
Does the imbalance of OMEGA-3 and OMEGA-6 affect our health?
Yes, it does. As long as the OMEGA-3 and OMEGA-6 remains imbalanced, it will lead to a marked increase in diseases such as cancer, heart-attacks, strokes, diabetes, arthritis and skin disorders.
How much OMEGA-3 and OMEGA-6 is sufficient? The recommended ratio by major health organisations in a balanced diet of OMEGA-3 and OMEGA-6 ranges from 1:2 to 1:6 depending on age and sex.
Will you gain weight from consumption of SEAL Oil?
Each capsule with 500mg Seal Oil contains 5 Kcal. It is merely 0.5% of a regular person’s 1200 Kcal daily calorie needs. In fact, you may LOSE WEIGHT when taking Seal Oil supplements. When OMEGA-3 is converted into PGE3 after consumption, it works as an agent to help reduce water retention in the body. Secondly it improves metabolism making it more efficient to burn fats resulting in WEIGHT LOSS.
What about plant-based oils? Aren't they healthier?
Plant-based OMEGA-3 oils from flaxseed oil, pumpkin seeds or walnuts comes in the form of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) which are short-chain OMEGA-3 fatty acids that needs to be converted into long-chain molecules before absorption. Studies have proven that our bodies are not very efficient in such processes due to insufficient amount of enzymes. These conversions can only take place when our bodies are healthy and in good conditions.
